Sterling Crest’s project experience includes the development of a major sewage conveyance line linking New Cairo with Al-Jabal Al-Asfar, undertaken to support the Government’s wider objective of improving wastewater management, drainage capacity and urban resilience across rapidly expanding areas of Cairo.

The project was conceived to reduce pressure on existing sewage infrastructure in New Cairo while accommodating future growth along the Ring Road and north of the Old Suez Road. By taking advantage of the area’s natural topography, the proposed system is designed to improve gravity-based drainage, reduce dependence on pumping stations and increase the overall efficiency of the wastewater network.

A key objective of the development is the integration of wastewater and stormwater management. The line is designed to absorb significant volumes of rainwater during heavy rainfall events, helping reduce flood risk and relieve pressure on surrounding road infrastructure. Existing decommissioned pumping stations are also intended to be repurposed as rainwater storage reservoirs, increasing the network’s overall storage capacity.

Within New Cairo, the project is intended to support the drainage of approximately 19,000 acres while eliminating the operational requirement for seven sewage pumping stations, reducing long-term operation and maintenance costs. In the expansion areas west of the Ring Road and north of the Old Suez Road, the system is designed to manage wastewater generated across approximately 6,600 acres while also reducing stormwater loads affecting major transport corridors.

Through an integrated approach to wastewater conveyance, rainwater management and infrastructure optimisation, the project aims to strengthen the capacity, efficiency and long-term sustainability of Cairo’s urban water-management network.
